Dental and Oral Conditions

The VA evaluates dental and oral conditions primarily based on the degree of disfigurement, functional impairment, or both. Conditions like jaw fractures, palate issues, and osteomyelitis can significantly impact a veteran’s quality of life, and ratings reflect the severity of these impairments.

Key Notes
Severity Matters

Ratings are determined by the extent of bone loss, jaw immobility, and functional impairment.

The availability and effectiveness of prosthetics for palate issues directly impact the rating percentage.

For conditions with overlapping symptoms, only the more limiting motion or defect is rated.
