The condition leads to a gradual loss of muscle control, resulting in significant functional impairments over time.

Common Symptoms Associated with ALS:

Loss of coordination: Difficulty in performing precise movements.
Muscle weakness: Generalized weakness that can affect various parts of the body.
Difficulty eating: Related conditions such as dysphagia are rated under:
- Code 7203: Stricture of the esophagus
- Code 9901: Loss of mandible function
Breathing difficulties: These are evaluated under:
- Code 6840: Chronic pleural effusion
- Code 6841: Diaphragm paralysis or eventration
Nerve paralysis: Can manifest in various ways depending on the affected nerves.
Double vision: Evaluated under:
- Code 6009: Unhealed eye injury
Weight loss: May result from muscular atrophy and difficulty eating.

Rating Details:

ALS is rated under the Central Nervous System Rating System currently in use.
The minimum rating for ALS is 30%, regardless of the severity or specific symptoms presented.
